Explore the stunning landscapes of the Faroe Islands on this 7-day photo tour. We will visit all the iconic locations such as Drangarnir, Mulafossar, Kallur Lighthouse, Tjornuvik and Eidi, but we will also visit loads of lesser-known hidden gems!
We will be based in Torshavn, the capital city of the Faroe Islands, giving us the perfect base to reach any location in a relatively short amount of time and take advantage of the ever-changing weather.
At the end of March, the sun rises at around 07:00 am and sets at around 8:00 pm, giving us a good balance between night and day, and some great opportunities to capture amazing images of this stunning landscape! In order to make the most of the weather, we will sometimes prioritise shooting at sunrise or sunset, whilst other times we will prioritise shooting throughout the day to get more moody and dramatic shots.
Between shooting sessions we will have downtime for everyone to rest, back-up their images and do some post-processing.

Itinerary: Throughout this workshop, we will not have a fixed daily itinerary and will visit locations depending on the weather conditions and accessibility, giving us the best possible chance of capturing great images. The images on this page show the locations we will attempt to visit throughout this workshop, we may revisit some locations if we have time and don’t get good conditions the first time around.
Meals: Since we will usually be out shooting before breakfast, you will be able to grab whatever you want for breakfast from the local grocery store which is 2 minutes away from the apartment. We will usually have lunch on the road and dinner at a restaurant, however, this will depend on the weather and our plan for each day. There are plenty of restaurants and gas stations that serve food throughout the Faroe Islands and I suggest having a couple of snacks with you for those days when we spend more time outdoors and prioritise shooting.
Level of fitness / Physical Exertion
The majority of the locations on this photo tour do not require any hiking, however, 2 locations require a short but steep hike (15 - 30 minutes depending on pace), and 2 locations require longer but relatively flat hikes to reach the optimal shooting spot. These hikes are optional as most locations offer an alternative spot to shoot from that does not require hiking.
Important - We plan to get to Drangarnir by boat to help us avoid the longest hike (Both to conserve energy, but also to save time), however, if we are unable to take the boat due to adverse sea conditions, we may need to hike to get to Drangarnir, but trust me, it’s definitely worth it!
Note: The few hikes that we will do vary in distance and elevation gain, none of them require you to be an athlete, however, it is expected that you are in good health. This photo tour is not recommended for anyone who suffers from heart conditions, mobility issues, or any other conditions that prevent them from hiking safely. If you have any concerns over the hikes and would prefer to skip them, you are welcome to do so, in most locations, you can get great images from close to the parking area.
Some of the locations we visit have a significant amount of exposure as we will be shooting around cliffs, if any location is out of your comfort zone, you are welcome to shoot from near the parking area, stay at your apartment to rest, or wait until we get to another location which is more suited to your ability/comfort level.
Terrain
We will be shooting from beaches, rocky shorelines, hills, and cliffs, due to the rugged terrain in the Faroe Islands, it is important that you wear appropriate footwear (Hiking Boots). It’s also important that you are comfortable walking on hiking trails and boggy ground. We will frequently be shooting on uneven ground.
After heavy rain, most of the trails can be very muddy and slippery. The weather in the Faroe Islands is fast changing. You should be ready for and can expect to have some stormy weather throughout the trip. This is not a relaxing holiday, we will have long days and spend several hours each day outdoors to give us the best chance to capture great images, the weather will greatly influence the amount of time we spend shooting.

● Any Camera which has a manual mode (DSLR, Mirrorless, Micro 4/3s)
● A wide-angle lens (14-24mm on Full Frame or 10mm + on Cropped Sensor)
● A mid-range zoom lens (24-70 mm)
● A telephoto zoom lens (70-200mm or 100-400mm)
● A Sturdy tripod (Lightweight/small tripods are not suitable due to frequent high winds)
● Drone + Spare batteries
● Filters (Polarizer and Neutral Density)
● Backup Body (Recommended but not mandatory)

● Waterproof and windproof jacket (Hard Shell)

Guide - Sam Scicluna
I was born and raised on the island of Malta, where my love for seascapes began. I have always enjoyed being outdoors and surrounded by nature. Growing up on an island has meant that I always had a special bond with the sea, this led to seascapes being a natural comfort zone and starting point in photography. In 2014, I went on an expedition to climb Mount Etna and later that year also climbed Monte Rosa, spending time in the mountains is what sparked my passion for landscape Photography. In 2016 I traveled to Iceland for the first time, realising a dream and further affirming my passion for landscape photography. I have always been amazed by the night sky, and going camping often has led me to experiment with astrophotography and shooting the night sky. I love outdoor activities like camping, hiking, climbing, scrambling and just exploring new places in general! I also just love taking time out to appreciate the world around me.
Safety
The Faroe Islands are remote, rugged, and harsh. The weather can change quickly, with strong winds, heavy rain, and sudden temperature drops all posing a risk when photographing on location, it is important to wear appropriate clothing when photographing locations like this. There are several cliffs at locations we will be shooting at, naturally, these are dangerous and you will be expected to keep a safe distance from the edge. You will be expected to follow safety instructions to ensure your safety and the safety of everyone around you.
Travel Insurance
We highly recommend investing in a comprehensive travel insurance policy that will not only cover any non-refundable workshop fees or unexpected medical costs but will also protect your camera gear and your luggage. A comprehensive travel insurance policy will cover missed flights and any other unexpected situations that may arise that prevent you from being able to travel or get to your destination. Flights can be delayed or you might need to return home if an emergency occurs, without travel insurance, disruptions to your trip can end up costing you a fortune. In many cases, you lose the money you've already paid and have to pay for new bookings too.

Due to the harshness and unpredictability of the weather in the Faroe Islands, I cannot guarantee that we will be able to visit all the locations on the itinerary, I will be checking the weather constantly and adjusting our itinerary to ensure we can make the most of the weather and light.
Some days will be easier than others, with more free time for everyone to rest and process their images.
Since this photo tour is focused on landscape photography and ensuring you get the best possible photos for your portfolio, we will aim to shoot most locations in the best light, which is usually at sunrise and sunset, but also throughout the day depending on the weather, this means we will have early starts and late finishes. We will also be shooting throughout the day, and depending on the weather, we may still get some fantastic light.
